History - Emery LittleBryan Little came into the independent financial advice profession when in 1966 he joined a small independent brokerage company as Company Secretary. At that stage as a qualified chartered secretary with knowledge of taxation, he became interested in the independent financial advice sector and was responsible for setting up two brokerage offices. One of these was in Wilton (near Salisbury) in 1971 and that office in 1974 became independent as Emery-Little Insurance Brokers with Bryan Little and John Emery the joint owners. At that time the company was in the membership of the Corporation of Insurance Brokers which was then considered to be the premier trade/regulatory organisation. In 1980, Bob Rouquette, who also has an ACII specialising in life and investment assurance, joined the company and a year later he became a director. With the advent of the Financial Services Act in 1986, the company separated into two with John Emery overseeing the general side and Bob Rouquette the life side and Bryan Little acting as the overall principal. Bryan Little was a member of the local Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) for many years and became its President in 1992. He was also a member of the Wessex Regional Council of British Insurance Broking Association (BIIBA) and served as its Treasurer for several years and was a member of the National Council of BIIBA for three years. Around this time he was very much involved in the educational training of insurance personnel in Salisbury and this included lecturing at Salisbury College of Technology, as a result of which he was encouraged to take the Fellowship examinations of the CII specialising the independent financial services and management. At the end of 1998 we were very pleased when Andy Little, who had been in the financial services sector for 15 years, decided that he too would like to become independent and he is already operating a very vibrant offshoot of the financial services organisation. Andy had spent 5 years with UK Provident, 5 years with Provident mutual and most recently 7 years with Aon/Godwins. In the last 5 years at Godwins Andy had specialised in providing financial advice to employees of one of the UK's largest companies, British Petroleum. Andy is a member of the Society of Financial Advisers (MSFA) by examination. The Hemel Hempstead operation was further strengthened with Iain Rankin joined as a Partner in March 2000. Iain is an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and an associate of the Society of Financial Advisers (ASFA) by examination. In the past he has worked for two major insurance companies and has now been providing Independent advice for over 17 years. He has been heavily involved in the corporate market as well as providing investment advice. Bryan Little |
